Destination Lucerne

The Lake Lucerne Region is geographically the heart and historically the origin of Switzerland. Lucerne is in many respects the most important spot in Central Switzerland; cultural centre and the core of the fourth biggest Swiss agglomeration. The Lake Lucerne Region is rich in culture and tradition: alpine festivals, music festivals and carnivals just to name a few of the many events which take place throughout the year.

The Culture and Congress Centre of Lucerne is located on the shores of Lake Lucerne in the heart of the city, directly adjacent to the main train station and within walking distance (10 min) of the historical old city centre.

Travel to Lucerne

By Air / Train

Switzerland is serviced by three major international airports at Geneva, Basel and Zurich. Frequent connections with all major European airlines are available, offering travel to all European destinations with short flying times. Basel, Zurich and Geneva are also serviced by several major "economy" airlines, such as EasyJet, offering a very attractive option for low-cost travel.

Lucerne is centrally-located in Switzerland, approximately 1 hour by train from the Zurich airport (non-stop), 1.5 hours from Basel airport and 3 hours from Geneva airport. The Swiss Federal Railway (SBB) is renowned for its comfortable, quick and punctual rail service, with hourly service to all major cities and airports. The SBB rail system offers excellent connections to the national rail systems of neighbouring countries, and an extensive network of routes for post-congress travel within Switzerland.

By Car

Lucerne is located on the main north-south axis of the European motorway system, and is also well connected to the west. Lucerne is 200 km from Como to the south, 95 km from Basel to the north, and 275 km from Geneva to the south-west. The Culture and Congress Center is located in the heart of the city, within walking distance of 12 public parking houses.

Travel within Lucerne

The Culture and Congress Center is conveniently located directly across the street from the main train station of Lucerne, which is also the central hub for the local public transit system. The old city center of Lucerne is a short walk from the congress venue, and many of the city hotels are also within walking distance. For more distant locations, the public transit system offers a simple and effective option for travel.

The local bus system provides frequent service throughout the town of Lucerne and surrounding area, with buses running every ten minutes in peak periods. Bus connections are available to a variety of tourist attractions around the lakeshore and to the nearby cable car station of the Pilatus mountain.

A further attractive transportation option is the extensive network of ships navigating Lake Lucerne. Ships travel directly to several destinations within Lucerne and can be a quicker alternative to the local buses. More extensive routes cover destinations around the entire lake, and several routes are serviced by historical steam-powered ships.
